Many freelancers begin with few contacts, and no understanding of how to grow them. They often struggle with the legal complexities of contracts, the complications of tax and accounting issues, and the steep learning curve behind business negotiations. Unlike employees, freelancers have to be their own marketing department, accounts department, legal department, and creative department.

In the face of this challenge, many flounder and panic.

Freelancing 101 serves as an intensive training platform for freelancers to overcome these issues. The workshops create interaction with peers, advice from the successfully self-employed, and feedback from the companies that employ their services. Each workshop brings opportunities for freelancers to present the issues they face, and to grow their networks. This October, we are excited to bring you a new edition of Freelancing 101 bootcamp, where we focus on social media and digital marketing.

What They Say

Everyone loved it. Read what the trainers and attendees say.

I am just starting my journey to become a freelancer. I actually am in the midst of setting up business aspects of things. I think something that a lot of us struggle with. We can do our work, but I don’t know how to do accounts. I don’t know the legal terms. I don’t know how to write codes or respond to clients or how to position myself and everything. I think the bootcamp really helped me a lot and cover a lot of things.
— Lynette Tan (Freelancer)
I think it is good as it is more one-on-one, instead of everyone there just listening to the lecture. Interviewers get to take a look at your portfolio and see what is good for you to improve, what is good for you to change so that you get more jobs.
— Kelvin Chow Jun Jie (Web Development)
From the bootcamp, I think I got to meet a lot of people, a lot of creatives. Working freelance or working solo doesn’t give you the opportunity to meet so many people all the time. You working from home and you don’t get to network, this was actually offline networking that was great. You also get to know that the struggles you are facing, the challenges you are facing, the doubts that you have about your occupation on how to go forward.
— Puja Chandra Nanda (Freelance Writer & Researcher)
